Fourth grade is a transition year. We transition our students from learning to read to reading to learn. We begin to look at the genres of literature to help foster a love of reading, as well as, increased fluency and comprehension. We incorporate history and science, taught from a Biblical perspective, into our reading and writing. We facilitate the beginning of a Biblical worldview for our students as we discuss, read, and develop skills to study the Bible. We teach Bible doctrine common to the Christian faith and encourage personal relationships with Christ and personal devotions. In fourth grade we study US history and Washington State history with a culminating field trip to Olympia where students get a hands-on look at how our state functions. We teach and review all the parts of speech in language. In writing, we are transitioning students from learning to write to using what they’ve learned to produce writing in book reports, science projects, compositions, short stories, and a state report.
